Fantasy Baseball: Garner's Greatest Top 25

By Chad Garner
Fan Fanatic Sports Staff
(Garner's Greatest Top 25 combines past and current performance and projections throughout the season to create the top 25 best players that will help lead your team to a fantasy baseball championship. The top 25 will change from week to week so be prepared for some surprise picks and players you just might no agree should be on the elite list.)

Player rising; Players falling

1. Albert Pujols, 1B, STL (previous 3) Wait until he REALLY finds his stroke.
2. Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DET (4) Are you serious? Hitting almost .500 right now.
3. Ian Kinsler, 2B, TEX (6) No. 1 player in 5 x 5 Yahoo! leagues
4. Hanley Ramirez, SS, FLA (1) Not producing as the No. 1 pick in many drafts.
5. Jose Reyes, SS, NYM (2) Over .300 and 3 steals, it's only going to improve.
6. David Wright, 3B, NYM (5) I'd like to see more HRs on his stat line. He's only got 1.
7. Grady Sizemore, OF, CLE (7) Batting average is the only thing keeping him for elite status.
8. Josh Hamilton, OF, TEX (8) Don't get frustrated with lack of power, yet. He can rake.
9. Evan Longoria, 3B, TB (9) Over .400 and 5 HRs ... is the best young hitter in the game.
10. Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI (13) Average climbing, HRs and RBIs to follow.
11. Alfonso Soriano, OF, CHC (15) recipe for success: scoring runs and hitting bombs.
12. Chase Utley, 2B, PHi (19) Clear-cut top fantasy 2B, you can't even argue it!
13. Mark Teixeira, 1B, NYY (10) Over the long haul, he'll have great numbers.
14. Ryan Braun, OF, MIL (11) Off to a slow start (1 homer).
15. Carlos Beltran, OF, NYM (17) Over .300, but no steals and 1 home run. He's a 30-30 threat.
16. Johan Santana, SP, NYM (21) Ranked third overall. 0.46 ERA and 27 Ks will do that.
17. Jimmy Rollins, SS, PHI (12) First home run might get him going. He's scuffling.
18. Carlos Quentin, CHW (NR) Look who's back and swinging the stick like he's healthy.
19. Roy Halladay, SP, TOR (NR) Besides Santana, is there a more consistent ace in the league?
20. B.J. Upton, OF, TB (NR) He's back, or is he hurt again?
21. Carl Crawford, OF, TB (18) Four stolen bases already.
22. Manny Ramirez, OF, LAD (23) Watch out, Manny's starting to go deep.
23. Lance Berkman, 1B, HOU (16) Struggling with bat, but no one is worried.
24. Tim Lincecum, SP, SF (24) 8 scoreless innings and 13 Ks vs. Snakes. Happy now?
25. Nick Markakis, OF, BAL (25) Do you realize he's a top 15 fantasy player as of Sunday?

Dropped out: Dustin Pedroia (BOS), Carlos Lee (HOU), Matt Holliday (OAK), CC Sabathia (NYY).

ALIVE
This may be the year he's finally put it all together. The Royals ace -- doesn't that sound funny? -- is 3-0 and hasn't yielded a run in 20 innings. He's also got a 1.05 WHIP and has 26 Ks and only five walks. Good luck trying to trade for him. If you've got him, sell REAL high.
Hill is only owned in 62 percent of leagues, so he just might be out there for you to steal off the waiver wire. Do it fast if you can, don't wait or he'll be gone. He's stroking the ball right now, but I'm not 100 percent sold on him. But pick him up and ride the hot streak, or use him as trade bait for someone that doesn't have a decent second baseman.
For a closer to be ranked No. 12 overall, that's extremely impressive. Bell has 7 saves -- four of which were one-run games -- and a 0.00 ERA. No one is calling for Trevor Hoffman right now, huh?
DEAD
Nady was being outplayed by Nick Swisher, now he might be gone for the season with an elbow injury. Enough said.
Wang is serving up beach balls to opposing hitters (34.50 ERA, now I think I could do better than that!). His bread-and-butter pitch is the sinker and that pitch is currently a stinker. There's plenty of other options out there for starters, drop him and get someone that is not going to destroy your ERA and WHIP.
It's hard not to be frustrated by Beltre, again. Here's his line as of Sunday: .196 BA, 6 R, 0 HR, 6 RBI, 2 SB. Isn't he suppose to be better than that? But don't we say the same thing every year? It's time to realize he's not an elite player.
