Well, well, well. It looks like Mr. Mango Salsa Man, David Ortiz, isn't such a Beantown Hero is he?
The Boston designated hitter was called out yesterday as being one of the 104 Major League Baseball players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, along with sidekick Manny Ramirez.
Is anyone really in total shock about Papi that he used performance-enhancing drugs? Well, apparently he is, considering he doesn't even know what he took. Ya, sure and I'm the best sports writer in the country.
Isn't this the same guy that has been extremely vocal during spring training about never using and how MLB should throw the book at everyone who is caught using?
Papi's a fraud, bottom line.
Are those Red Sox World Series titles tainted now since both Ortiz and Manny -- the two feared hitters in that Boston lineup -- were dirty players during that run? That's for you to judge.
The bottom line is he disrespected the game by cheating, even Red Sox fans can't argue that statement.
Will Ortiz be treated just like the other stars who have been caught using and still are playing -- Manny, Alex Rodriguez -- with a steady dose of boos at every ballpark?
Do Red Sox fans still love Ortiz (based on the standing ovation he got during yesterday's game, they still love him)? Is he forgiven in your book?
How do you view Ortiz now?
It's sad, but Big Papi is a Big Fraud now.
Chad,
ReplyDeleteYou got to the computer before I could. Not only is Big Papi a fraud, but so are Red Sox fans. The excuses are already coming out. Everyone else was doing it, we don't know what he took, etc.
Gotta love the fact Ortiz didn't even deny it. I guess his excuses will come when he finds out what he's busted for. He'll probably blame it on something he got from GNC. What I think the reality is he was on several things back then, and later, and is now waiting to see what he got busted for.
Back to the Sox fans. The Red Sox fans killed the Yankees over Clemens, Pettitte and Arod. I love how the tides have turned now.
He should be treated just like A-Rod, Manny, etc. He should be booed and reminded he cheated, but it won't happen at Fenway. But wait until he gets to Yankee Stadium, it's payback now. Shame on Ortiz, he's clean-cut act was just that, an act. He's a liar and a cheater.
ReplyDeleteIf Manny and Ortiz had been outed before any of the Alter Boy Yankees, I'm sure all you young Yankee fans would have been quiet. NOT! Ortiz should be punished like any other cheater. When you're wrong, you're wrong no matter what uniform you wear. If he serves a suspension he should be able to come back and all should be forgiven. Just like Michael Vick, right?
ReplyDeleteI forgive him already, and that's coming from a Yankees fan ...while I don't agree with using performance-enhancing drugs, I just love the sport, clean or dirty. Baseball is a great game. You can boos guys all you want, but I still respect what type of talent they have to even get to that level.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to make excuses for him. He cheated. Bottom line. Same applies for anyone who uses steroids, PED's, whatever. And even if he decides to go with the "I didn't know I was taking it" excuse, a) I don't buy it and b) if it is true you didn't know, you're still guilty - and it's all for the same reason: When you are a professional athlete, your body is your livelihood. It's your job to know what you're putting in your body. If you're not sure after reading the list you have, go ask the doctors or trainers on staff who also have a copy of the list and a background. There's no excuse otherwise. Anyone who tries to make excuses makes me sick. Just because we want there to be a good, valid reason for all this doesn't mean there actually is one.
