Advantage American League ... again!!!

By Chad Garner
Fan Fanatic Sports Staff
What a great All-Star Game.
The best and brightest stars came out and put on a show -- some clutch hitting, great pitching and exceptional defense (Carl Crawford robbing a homer in left field was just amazing!).
And to top it off the American League, with another All-Star Game win, secured home-field advantage in the World Series.
Nice!
Especially if you're an American League fan who roots for the Red Sox, Yankees or Rays -- just a few teams who actually have a shot at winning the whole thing.
But I'm still confused as to why people still want to complain about the All-Star Game, a game now that puts an emphasis on winning and rewards the team with home-field advantage in the World Series.
What's the big deal with that? Every other All-Star game --football, basketball, hockey, etc. -- is just a goof-around session which is done to simply entertain. There's no defense played in any one of those other games, but in baseball there's no taking it easy. The managers manage to win the game and what's so bad about that?
Do you like the All-Star Game format, rewarding the winning league with home-field advantage in the World Series? Or what do you think should be done?
Go ahead, let me hear you!

  1. The Mid Summer Classic is still one of my favorite sports events, and last night was a very good game if you're an AL fan. Too bad I'm a NL guy who had to sit through AL Pitchers mowing down 18 in a row of the "Best" the NL has to offer. It's pathetic they NL hasn't won a game in 13 years.
I do have to say that the AL is a far superior league. In my mind, there are only 2 legitimate contenders in the NL: The Dodgers & Phillies. There are 3 contenders alone in the AL East much less the AL.

  2. I must admit I haven't watched a full all-star game in years. After watching every Red Sox game, I am ready for a few days of watching something else.

I am not sure how I feel about home field being decided by the all star game. If Kevin Youkilis hits a game winning home run in the ninth, and the Yankees get a World Series game 7 at home because of it, it would not seem right that a Red Sox helped out the Yankees. Although I do like the idea of the game counting for something, so I can live with the current format.

I have also heard it suggested that the league with the best interleague record should get home field. Although I like this idea even less. I don't want a Royal-Pirates game in June deciding home field.

It doesn't really matter though, according to Phillies fans. After spending the past few days in Philly, they are so convinced that Pedro has something left and they are going to get Halliday, that the Phillies are clearly the best team in MLB and about to win it all again.

  3. I still think of the two teams participating in the world series, the team with the better record should get home field advantage. It works in the NBA and it works in the NHL. Why should the MLB be any different
